Lesson 3 “It IS God's Will to Heal”

Matt 6:6-15 “…Thy kingdom come, thy will be done…”

Will: 2307 thelema [from 2309 to determine; choose or prefer; to wish; be inclined to; to delight in]; a determination ie. choice (spec purpose, decree; volition) or inclination:- desire, pleasure, will

1. The power of choosing; the faculty or endowment of the soul by which it is capable of choosing; the faculty or power of the mind by which we decide to do or not to do; the power or faculty of preferring or selecting one of two or more objects. 2. The choice which is made; a determination or preference which results from the act or exercise of the power of choice; a volition. 3. The choice or determination of one who has authority; a decree; a command; discretionary pleasure. 4. Strong wish or inclination; desire; purpose. 5. That which is strongly wished or desired.

Volition

1. The act of willing or choosing; the act of forming a purpose; the exercise of the will. 2. The result of an act or exercise of choosing or willing; a state of choice. 3. The power of willing or determining; will. Syn. -- Will; choice; preference; determination; purpose.

The Will of God

Luke 12:31, 32 “But seek the kingdom of God , and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

Phil 2:13   “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure .”

Ephesians 1:1-11 “… 5  having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will , 9  having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 11  In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will .”

II Thess 1:11,12 “Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Rev 4:11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

The Will of God = The Pleasure of God

Ps 35:27 “ Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, "Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."

Ps 103:19-22 “The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all. Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.”

Ps 147:11-20 “The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.”

The Pleasure of God's Word

Jer 1:12 “Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.”

NOT – I will hasten to perform my word!

Hasten: 8245 shaqad; prim root; to be alert, ie.sleepless, hence to be on the lookout (whether for good or ill):- hasten, remain, wake, watch for

Perform: 6213 'asah; to do or make

I will be alert – on the lookout – for my word to do it.”

Prov 8:34,35 “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.”

Waiting: 8104 shamar, prim root; to hedge about (as with thorns) ie.guard, gen. to protect, attend to, etc.

We must be alert – on the lookout – for the voice of the Lord – daily – at His gates – His presence – hedging about with thorns (not letting anything get through to steal the Word) – guarding, protecting, attending to the Word of the Lord to us – individually!

Ez 37:4 “And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.”

Hearing the Will of God, the Pleasure of God,

by His Spirit

in His Presence Takes Time.

We must daily go in His presence not only by the means of prayer, worship and time in the Word but in quietness to hear Him speak to us – and that takes time.

If you want the blessings of God operating in your life, you must have an ear to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to you . There are blessings and the favor of the Lord just because we are in the family of God – but there is more! He is more than enough for what we need! We need to fellowship with Him – not have a one-way conversation with Him. Do you like that kind of relationship with your friends and family? They do all the talking and you can't get a word in edgewise. Our Father feels the same way… He desires, He takes pleasure in spending time with us, talking to us, revealing the mystery of His will to us. It doesn't just happen. It takes relationship.

Prov 11:20 “They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.”

Prov 12:22 Prov 15:8

“Yet it pleased the Lord…”

Is 53:10-12  “Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him, and He made Him sick. When you make Him a restitution offering, He will see [His] seed, He will prolong His days, and the will of the Lord will succeed by His hand. He will see [it] out of His anguish, and He will be satisfied with His knowledge. My righteous servant will justify many, and He will carry their iniquities. Therefore I will give Him the many as a portion, and He will receive the mighty as spoil, because He submitted Himself to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels .” Holman Christian Standard Bible

It pleased the Father for Jesus to be the ultimate payment for our sin and our sickness. His great love for us is beyond comprehension with the natural mind.

The Will of God

I Thess 4:3; 5:18
Col 1:1,9; 4:12
Gal 1:4

Rom 1:10; 2:18; 12:2; 15:32
Acts 13:22; 21:14; 22:14

I Jn 5:14,15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

For further consideration

  1. How do we find out the “will” of God? What is His will for my life? For my situation, family, or health?
  2. How do we determine what is our will vs. God's will when we seek Him?
  3. How do we know someone else's desires? By spending time with them.

God has a will – a desire, a purpose, a pleasure to be fulfilled in each of our lives. Spend time with Him and discover!
